Posted by admin on November 7, 2013

The 2013 Annual Northern Ontario Country Music Awards Weekend was held on November 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 2013 at the Comfort Suites and Conference Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.  We had a great turnout of people from all over Northern Ontario and beyond and our Awards Show was a sellout.

All weekend events were held at the Comfort Suites and Conference Centre.  The Master of Ceremonies for all events was Country 104.3 morning man, Jeff McNiece.

The weekend kicked off with a "Great Northern Opry Show and Dance" on Friday November 1, from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am.  This show featured Frank Robbins and Back in Tyme from North Bay, with special guests.  Click here to see a photo gallery of this show.

Two events were held on Saturday evening, Nov 2, running back to back.  First was "The Northern Ontario Country Music Awards Show" from 6:30 to 9:30.  Afterwards, from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am was the Great Northern Opry Show and Dance.

The Awards show on Saturday evening featured music by Mike Case & White Stallion.  There was a special guest appearance by Great Northern Opry Inductee Mark Tarantini, with his 14 year old son Matthew on guitar.  Inductees into The Great Northern Opry this year were:

  • Michel Geoffroy - Timmins
  • Noel Geoffroy - Timmins

  • Donald Jacques - Blind River
  • Marice Labelle - Little Current
  • Richard Gibbings - Powassan
  • Derek Craig - Val Caron

The 2013 Northern Ontario Country Music Hall of Fame Inductees were husband and wife team of Loreen and Jack Knight, from Bruce Mines.  Jack passed away in May of 2011.  Loreen was onhand to accept the award for both of them, and sang a couple of songs for the crowd.

The 2012 weekend was also great with lots of good feedback from attendees.  We had people attending from all over Northern Ontario, with five bus loads coming from North Bay, Kapuskasing, Timmins, and Manitoulin Island.  We anticipate that the number of buses will increase to eight in 2014, meaning we will have a sold out show, so be sure to plan early for this event to avoid disappointment.  Contact your local district representative to indicate your interest in attending the 2014 event or to get information on a tour bus.  You can also use our Contact Form
